Senior Frontend WordPress Developer (Mobile App Experience)

Role Overview

We’re looking for a Frontend WordPress Developer with experience in mobile app development to join our growing team working on innovative tech products within the leisure & hospitality sector. You’ll play a key role in shaping and owning our WordPress Plugin, building it to be scalable and easily customisable.

In this role, you’ll take full ownership of our custom WordPress plugin ecosystem, specifically powering the customer booking journey. You’ll be responsible for maintaining and enhancing existing plugins, developing new features, improving performance, and helping us evolve this into a scalable product. Over time, this function will grow, and you’ll have the opportunity to bring in and lead additional support as we expand.

Alongside this, you’ll collaborate closely with the development team to support the continuous development of our mobile app, contributing to feature enhancements, UI/UX improvements, and ensuring a smooth, reliable experience for users.

Key Responsibilities

WordPress Plugin (Primary)

• Maintain and enhance our custom WordPress plugin that powers booking flows and customer experiences
• Improve performance, reliability, security and maintainability
• Work closely with internal stakeholders to translate requirements into features
• Lead and document technical decisions related to the WordPress Plugin
• Over time, help recruit and mentor additional developers as the platform expands

Mobile App Development (Secondary)

• Contribute to feature development and improvements within our React Native mobile app
• Work with senior engineers to deliver reliable, performant app releases
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and optimisation
• Support UI/UX improvements and user journey enhancements

Required Skills & Experience

WordPress / Frontend (Must-Have)

• 3–5+ years of professional WordPress development experience
• Strong experience building and maintaining custom plugins (not just themes)
• Proficiency in PHP, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML, CSS (Sass/Tailwind bonus)
• Understanding of WordPress architecture, WP APIs, hooks, actions & filters
• Experience integrating third-party APIs and handling authentication workflows
• Ability to deliver clean, scalable, maintainable code

Mobile App / React Native (Strong Advantage)

• React Native: 3+ years (production experience ideal)
• Experience with React & TypeScript
• Familiarity with Expo workflows
• Awareness of iOS/Android deployment considerations
• Experience improving performance and debugging on-device issues
