Job Summary
Our client, a leading company in the Water industry, is seeking a talented Design Manager to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on innovative projects that will shape the future of the industry. The successful candidate will be joining a long term framework for a major water utility, encompassing both Capital Enhancement and Capital Maintenance projects. The role involves working on large pipeline schemes, assisting in the concept and definition stages, before progressing to the full design and build submission during the implementation stage. The Design Manager will report directly to the Framework Manager, playing a key role in driving the growth of this new business from the start. They will also contribute to establishing a new team focused on delivering the 3 Pillar Model and core values.
Experience
- Previous experience in design and management of potable water mains - Strong working knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and common data environments - Degree or HNC in civil engineering (or equivalent) - Membership (or working towards membership) of a recognized engineering institution, such as Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer - Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members - Self-motivated, results-driven, and positive in approach - Experience in people management, time management, and project design management
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee the technical integrity of project solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure design compliance with customer and statutory standards, regulations, and specifications.
- Manage external consultants, ensuring contract requirements are met and appropriate actions are taken if not.
- Develop reliable, maintainable asset designs that meet project objectives.
- Lead multi-discipline teams, including internal engineers, consultants, and partners.
- Manage project engineering budgets, schedules, and implement change control processes.
- Ensure all engineering outputs comply with health and safety regulations, quality systems, and client standards.
- Evaluate designs and solutions, and support supply chain selection for specialist input.
- Collaborate with technical, operational, maintenance, and strategic stakeholders.
- Liaise with Framework Manager, Project Managers, and consultants on project issues, scope changes, and risks.
- Understand and manage temporary works design responsibilities.
- Ensure adherence to the company’s Code of Conduct and promote safe, compliant working practices.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful work environment, encouraging teamwork and continuous improvement.
