Job Summary

Position Summary

The Mine Manager will be responsible for the overall leadership, operational performance, safety, production, and profitability of the mining operation in Mumbwa, Zambia. The role requires strong technical mining expertise combined with leadership capability to manage open pit and/or underground mining operations, contractor management, engineering coordination, and operational excellence.


The ideal candidate should possess extensive experience in mine operations, drilling and blasting, load and haul, production planning, contractor supervision, safety compliance, and mine development projects.




Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Lead all mining operations to achieve production targets safely and efficiently.
  • Manage drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, crushing, and ore delivery activities.
  • Oversee daily, weekly, and monthly production planning and execution.
  • Ensure optimal utilization of mining equipment and resources.
  • Monitor operational KPIs including productivity, cost, recovery, and equipment performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve operational efficiency.


Safety, Health & Environment

  • Ensure compliance with Zambian mining regulations and company SHEQ standards.
  • Promote a zero-harm safety culture across the operation.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure environmental compliance and sustainable mining practices.
  • Lead incident investigations and corrective action implementation.


Technical & Engineering Oversight

  • Coordinate with geology, survey, geotechnical, and engineering departments.
  • Review pit designs, mine plans, schedules, and development activities.
  • Ensure effective maintenance and reliability of mining equipment.
  • Support mine expansion, shaft sinking, and infrastructure projects where applicable.


Contractor & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage mining contractors and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Coordinate contractor mobilization, site establishment, and operational readiness.
  • Maintain strong relationships with government authorities, suppliers, and local communities.


Financial & Commercial Management

  • Develop and manage operational budgets and cost controls.
  • Monitor mining costs and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Support procurement and inventory management processes.
  • Prepare operational reports and performance presentations for senior management.


Leadership & People Development

  • Lead and mentor mining supervisors, engineers, and operational teams.
  • Build a high-performance culture through coaching and accountability.
  • Ensure workforce competency development and succession planning.
  • Promote teamwork and strong communication across departments.




Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
  • Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency.
  • Valid Blasting License (advantageous).
  • Additional qualifications in safety or project management will be an added advantage.




Experience Requirements

Minimum 20 + years of mining experience with at least 5 years in senior mine management roles.

Extensive experience in open pit and/or underground mining operations.

Proven experience in:

Drilling and blasting

Load and haul operations

Contractor management

Production management

Mine planning and scheduling

Safety leadership

Engineering coordination

Experience in gold, copper, or hard rock mining operations preferred.

African mining experience highly advantagous
