Job PurposeThe Fleet Manager is responsible for the efficient management, optimization, and maintenance of all mining fleet operations, ensuring maximum equipment availability, cost control, safety compliance, and operational efficiency in gold mining operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fleet Operations Management
Oversee daily operations of mining fleet including haul trucks, light vehicles, and support equipment.
Ensure high fleet availability and minimal downtime through proactive maintenance and planning.
Optimize fleet utilization, routing, and deployment to support mining production targets.
2. Maintenance & Technical Management
Manage preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
Oversee workshop operations and ensure compliance with OEM standards.
Monitor vehicle condition, repairs, and lifecycle management (renewal & disposal).
3. Cost Control & Budgeting
Develop and manage fleet budgets (CAPEX & OPEX).
Monitor fuel consumption, tyre costs, maintenance expenses, and overall fleet cost efficiency.
Prepare monthly financial and operational reports.
4. Compliance, Safety & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with mining safety standards, SHEQ policies, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain licensing, certifications, and fleet documentation.
Drive a strong safety culture and ensure zero-harm objectives.
5. Supplier & Stakeholder Management
Manage relationships with suppliers, contractors, and service providers.
Negotiate contracts and ensure cost-effective procurement of fleet assets and services.
Coordinate with mining, engineering, and logistics teams.
6. Data, Reporting & Systems
Maintain accurate fleet records, audits, and reporting systems.
Analyze fleet performance data and implement improvements.
Ensure compliance with audit and reporting standards.
7. Team Leadership
Lead and manage fleet personnel, drivers, and technical teams (50–100+ staff).
Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
Ensure workforce productivity and adherence to operational standards.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Transport Management, Logistics, Engineering, or related field.
Minimum 10–15+ years experience in fleet/logistics management.
Experience in mining or heavy equipment environment preferred.
