Project Planner/Scheduler
Objective
As a Planner/Scheduler, you will play a critical role in the planning and coordination of project schedules to ensure the timely and efficient completion of engineering projects for clients. Your role involves creating, monitoring, and maintaining project schedules, coordinating with project teams, and identifying and mitigating potential delays. You will ensure that all project timelines are met and that resources are allocated effectively, contributing to the overall success of the projects.
Responsibilities
On a typical day, the incumbent’s work may include the following:
Project Planning and Scheduling
Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, incorporating all phases of the project lifecycle.
Work closely with project managers and team members to gather project details and ensure accurate schedule creation.
Identify project milestones, critical path activities, and resource requirements.
Ensure schedules are aligned with project goals, objectives, and deliverables.
Monitoring and Updating
Monitor project progress and update schedules regularly to reflect changes and progress.
Gather information from team members, consultants, contractors and
Track and report on project performance, identifying any deviations from the schedule.
Analyse schedule impacts and develop recovery plans for any delays.
Coordinate with project managers to adjust schedules as necessary to accommodate changes in scope ortimelines.
Coordination and Communication
Facilitate communication between project stakeholders to ensure schedule adherence and projectalignment.
Conduct regular schedule review meetings with project teams and stakeholders.
Provide timely and accurate schedule reports and updates to project managers and other stakeholders.
Identify potential scheduling conflicts and work with project teams to resolve them.
Risk Management and Mitigation
Identify potential risks and issues that could impact project schedules.
Develop and implement mitigation strategies to address schedule risks and issues.
Ensure that all scheduling activities comply with company policies and industry standards.
Tools and Systems:
Utilise project management and scheduling software (e.g., Microsoft Project and/or Primavera) to develop and maintain project schedules.
Ensure the integrity and accuracy of scheduling data in project management systems.
Continuously improve scheduling processes and tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Qualifications and experience
Academic Qualification: Advanced training in the use of applicable software is a requirement. A project management certification is recommended.
Experience: At least 5 years of experience in project scheduling, preferably in the engineering and mining industry. On-site construction experience is also preferred.
