Role Overview
This position supports the design and delivery of electrical infrastructure used in large-scale energy facilities. The Senior Power Systems Engineer will contribute to the development, analysis, and improvement of electrical systems that support assets such as pipelines, compressor stations, and storage facilities.
The role combines technical expertise with project coordination. The engineer will work with internal teams and external partners to ensure electrical systems are designed safely, operate reliably, and meet regulatory requirements.
Your Core Focus
• Lead the design and implementation of electrical power systems and distribution networks supporting energy infrastructure facilities
• Support new construction projects as well as upgrades to existing electrical systems
• Provide technical input on system layouts, schematics, and equipment selection
• Contribute to the implementation of monitoring, automation, and control technologies used in facility operations
• Support electrical safety initiatives including arc flash mitigation and fault protection strategies
• Manage engineering deliverables across project phases from early design through implementation
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety, environmental, and electrical design standards
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering, operations, and project teams
• Provide mentorship and technical support to less experienced engineers
• Participate in procurement and vendor coordination related to electrical equipment and materials
Technical Background
• Experience working with electrical power distribution systems in industrial or infrastructure environments
• Familiarity with power system modeling or analysis tools such as ETAP, MATLAB, PSCAD, Simulink, or similar platforms
• Knowledge of high-voltage electrical equipment including transformers, generators, and switchgear
• Understanding of grid integration concepts or energy systems within industrial facilities
• Exposure to commissioning, testing, or startup of electrical equipment is considered beneficial
Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
or
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited institution with a Professional Engineer (PE) license
Candidates typically bring 8 or more years of relevant engineering experience within energy infrastructure, industrial facilities, data centers, or similar environments
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
• Working knowledge of electrical design standards such as NEC, NEMA, API, and IEEE
• Ability to review arc flash studies and support mitigation improvements
• Strong coordination, documentation, and communication skills
• Proficiency with standard office software and engineering documentation tools
Preferred experience may include:
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Exposure to Pre-FEED, FEED, or EPC project environments
• Experience with PLC or instrumentation systems used in facility operations
• Participation in project coordination or project management activities within engineering programs
Travel
This role may require up to 50% travel depending on project needs.
Location & Mobility
This role will initially be based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for approximately the first two years. After this phase, and depending on project requirements, the position is expected to transition to Tulsa, Oklahoma or Houston, Texas. Candidates must be willing to relocate as part of the role.
Consider This Before Applying
• The role includes technical ownership and project accountability, often requiring sound judgment, collaboration across teams, and the ability to navigate evolving project timelines.
• Work is closely connected to industrial energy facilities, which can involve coordination with field teams and site-based project environments rather than a purely office setting.
• Individuals who thrive in structured, predictable office environments or prefer limited interpersonal interaction may find this role challenging.
What to Expect Next
• Submit resume in Word format (.doc or .docx)
• LinkedIn or Indeed-generated resumes will not be accepted
To confirm that you have carefully reviewed the full job description, please include the phrase “Knowledge of high-voltage electrical equipment” at the beginning of your application or cover letter. This step helps ensure applicants have read the role details and can follow application instructions. Applications submitted without the phrase may receive lower priority during the initial review.
Each resume will be reviewed by a member of the recruitment team. Candidates whose experience closely aligns with the role requirements will be contacted regarding the next stage of the hiring process. Due to the volume of submissions, not all applicants will receive follow-up communication.
