Job Summary

JOB TITLE: Deputy Manager

LOCATION: South Staffordshire

SALARY: £32,000 plus £62.75 per sleep-in Average 7+ sleep-ins per month, increasing salary to approx. £37,000+ per annum

HOURS: 39 hours per week


ROLE OVERVIEW

Our client provides a therapeutic residential service focused on achieving long-term positive outcomes for children through a specialist “Prep4Fostering” model. This service supports children who are currently in residential care or experiencing foster placement instability, helping them transition successfully into a family environment. As Deputy Manager, you will play a key leadership role within the home, supporting the Home Manager in ensuring a safe, nurturing and therapeutic environment for children. You will take responsibility for leading shifts, guiding and supporting the staff team, and contributing to the overall care and development of each child.This role will typically involve two shift days and one dedicated admin day per week, allowing time for both direct care leadership and essential administrative responsibilities.


JOB DESCRIPTION


Professional Child Care Practice


Ensure the home’s Statement of Purpose is consistently followed and its objectives are met


Contribute to a warm, homely and therapeutic environment supporting children’s emotional, social and personal development


Maintain and promote high standards of care and continuous improvement across the home


Provide effective management of the home in the absence of the Home Manager


Lead shifts effectively, providing clear direction, guidance and support to the staff team


Develop a strong understanding of each child’s background, therapeutic care plan and progress


Support implementation of individual care plans


Provide consistent boundaries to create safety, structure and emotional containment


Act as a positive role model for children and staff, supporting healthy relationships and attachments


Promote children’s physical, emotional and social development through positive routines and activities


Be vigilant to safeguarding concerns and ensure all children are protected and supported appropriately


Work in an anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive way, promoting children’s rights at all times


Support children’s identity, self-worth and confidence


Demonstrate sensitivity to individual needs including culture, race, language, sexuality and religion


Communicate effectively with children, observing behaviour and recording key information


Liaise with external professionals including schools, social workers and other agencies


Support children with education, school attendance and homework


Attend and contribute to professional meetings


Take an active role in care planning and implementation


Work collaboratively with psychologists and professionals to support therapeutic care


Support transitions into fostering placements


Accompany children on outings, holidays and short breaks


Plan and deliver activities promoting diversity and inclusion


Relationships with Colleagues


Provide supervision to identified staff members


Participate in team meetings and chair meetings in the absence of the Home Manager


Work flexibly to support positive outcomes for children


Demonstrate strong leadership in managing and supporting the staff team


Ensure staff understand their responsibilities in line with relevant legislation


Support ongoing professional development of staff


Household Responsibilities


Contribute to the daily running and upkeep of the home


Maintain a safe, welcoming and well-presented environment


Take responsibility for the home, including fabric, equipment and grounds


Monitor and manage expenditure in line with financial procedures


Oversee health and safety systems including risk assessments and compliance


Personal Responsibilities


Deputise for the Registered Home Manager in their absence


Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance


Attend supervision and take responsibility for professional development needs


Develop strong understanding of policies and procedures


Commit to ongoing training and development


Attend mandatory training, supervision and staff meetings


Ensure all administrative duties are completed accurately and in line with requirements
