A culture that recognises and celebrates progress in all its formsChildren are supported to access advocacy and have meaningful opportunities to express their views, influence their care, and contribute to how the home is run.Job PurposeTo lead, manage, and be legally accountable for a 2-bed children’s residential home supporting children with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD).You will ensure safe, high-quality, and compliant care in line with Children’s Homes Regulations, Ofsted requirements, and safeguarding legislation.You will be responsible for leadership, safeguarding practice, quality of care, staff development, compliance, and continuous improvement.The role requires strong cultural leadership, ensuring that daily practice reflects the home’s Statement of Purpose and delivers meaningful outcomes for children.
Key Responsibilities
Safeguarding & Child ProtectionLead responsibility for safeguarding children and young people
Ensure all concerns are acted on promptly and escalated appropriately
Maintain safe systems of care and risk management
Ensure staff confidence and competence in safeguarding
Oversee serious incidents and Ofsted notifications
Ensure restrictive practices are proportionate, recorded, reviewed, and reducedOfsted Compliance & Regulatory Responsibility
Ensure full compliance with relevant legislation and Quality Standards
Maintain inspection readiness at all times
Embed and respond to Regulation 44 visits
Produce Regulation 45 Quality of Care reports
Lead Ofsted inspections and improvement plans
Ensure accurate and timely statutory notifications
Keep the Statement of Purpose up to date and embeddedLeadership & Staff ManagementLead, supervise, and support the staff team
Oversee recruitment, induction, and retention
Provide reflective supervision to improve practice
Manage performance, conduct, absence, and wellbeing
Ensure safe staffing levels and rota planning
Develop a stable, trauma-informed team cultureQuality of Care & Child ExperienceEnsure care is individualised and responsive
Promote emotional, social, educational, and physical wellbeing
Ensure children’s voices influence decision-making
Support access to advocacy services

Monitor behaviour patterns and placement stability
Manage incidents including missing-from-care

Maintain internal monitoring systems
Conduct audits and drive improvements
Implement action plans from findings
Embed learning from feedback and inspections

Record Keeping & Reporting
Ensure all documentation is accurate and compliant
Oversee care plans, risk assessments, and reports
Maintain high standards suitable for inspection
Ensure records are clear and audit-ready

What We Are Looking For
Essential Requirements
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care (Children & Young People) or equivalent
2–3 years’ experience in residential childcare
Experience in a supervisory or management role
Strong safeguarding knowledge
Understanding of Ofsted frameworks
Ability to lead in emotionally demanding environments
