Job Summary

JOB TITLE: Maintenance Person 

LOCATION: Somerset (Head Office is based in Weston Super Mare)

SALARY: £13.50 – £14.50 per hour 

HOURS: 40 hours per week 

REPORTS TO: General Manager

Role Overview 

Our client is seeking a reliable and skilled Maintenance Person to support the smooth operation of their homes and head office. You will be responsible for carrying out a variety of maintenance, repair, and inspection tasks to ensure the environment remains safe, functional, and welcoming. This is a hands-on role requiring initiative, flexibility, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You’ll work both independently and alongside colleagues, ensuring that all maintenance work is completed efficiently and to a high standard. 


Key Responsibilities 

Carry out routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections across the home and head office, including fixtures, fittings, basic plumbing, electrics, and general carpentry or painting tasks. 

Undertake painting, decorating, and finishing work to maintain high presentation standards throughout the property. 

Support refurbishment and improvement projects as required. 

Respond promptly to maintenance requests, escalating issues when necessary. 

Maintain the grounds and outdoor areas to ensure they are safe and well-presented. 

Assist with planned preventative maintenance schedules. 

Conduct regular health and safety checks, including fire safety, emergency lighting, and equipment inspections, recording all findings accurately. 

Monitor and maintain tools, equipment, and systems to ensure safety and reliability. 

Liaise with external contractors and suppliers when required, under the direction of the General Manager. 

Keep detailed records of all maintenance activities, including repairs and inspections. 

Provide friendly, respectful assistance to residents and staff while carrying out maintenance work within living or working areas. 

Maintain a tidy, organised, and safe working environment at all times, showing consideration for residents’ personal spaces.  


Requirements Essential: 

Proven experience in general maintenance work. 

Skilled in painting and decorating. 

Practical, hands-on approach with strong problem-solving abilities. 

Awareness of health and safety regulations, with a willingness to complete relevant training. 

Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, residents, and contractors. 

Organised, proactive, and capable of prioritising workload efficiently. 

Compassionate and respectful approach when working within care environments. 

Understanding of risk assessments and their importance in maintaining a safe environment. 


Desirable: 

Experience working in a nursing or care home setting.
