Job Summary
JOB TITLE: Consultant Psychiatrist
LOCATION: Leicester
SALARY: £105,504 to £139,882
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to join our multidisciplinary team in a purpose-built Regional Secure Unit. This role presents an exciting opportunity for professionals with a particular interest in working with male patients with mental illness. The successful candidate will play a key role in assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients in a medium-secure setting, leading a team, and contributing to service development.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team in the assessment and treatment of male patients with mental illness in a medium-secure setting.
Conduct pre-admission assessments, advise commissioners, and manage 70-90 referrals per year.
Oversee a caseload of 12-14 inpatients, chair ward rounds and CPA meetings, ensuring high standards of care.
Provide timely reports to Hospital Managers, Tribunals, and relevant stakeholders.
Actively contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, and the development of care pathways.
Engage in training, supervision, and development of junior medical staff.
Participate in an on-call rota (1 in 8), providing 24-hour Consultant cover.
Support service development, clinical audits, and research activities.

Essential Criteria:
Qualifications:
MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
MRCPsych or equivalent.
Full GMC registration.
Specialist Register inclusion or CCT in Forensic Psychiatry (or General Adult Psychiatry with forensic experience).
Section 12(2) approval, Approved Clinician status, and DBS clearance.
Experience:
3 years approved higher training in Forensic Psychiatry (or equivalent experience).
Experience in secure psychiatric settings.
Proven experience in risk management and forensic psychiatric care.
Skills:
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Ability to make decisions based on clinical evidence and experience.
Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Desirable Criteria:
Additional qualifications (e.g., MD, PhD, MSc) or experience in clinical research, medical education, or management.
Leadership experience and knowledge of recent developments in offender care.
