Job Summary
The Kitchen Assistant will support kitchen operations, including food preparation, cleaning, and ensuring a clean, safe environment. This role involves preparing meals, serving food, maintaining cleanliness in kitchen and dining areas, and ensuring compliance with food safety standards. The ideal candidate will have experience in kitchen work and a strong understanding of health and safety regulations.
Experience
Experience/ Requirements Experience in a similar kitchen role. Relevant qualifications (e.g., food hygiene certification). Strong knowledge of HASAWA (Health and Safety at Work Act) and COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations. Experience with DIY-style maintenance and repairs, including the use of common tools (hammers, saws, drills, etc.). Experience in gardening or grounds maintenance (preferred but not required). Flexibility to adapt to changing tasks and needs. Ability to work independently with initiative.
Job Responsibilities
- Follow food safety and health and safety policies at all times.
- Complete and maintain records as per company policies.
- Ensure personal training is up to date, including mandatory courses.
- Prepare simple meals (e.g., vegetables, salad) under the direction of the Cook.
- Set up dining areas for all meals, including laying tables and preparing beverage trolleys.
- Serve food to residents and deliver meal trays to their rooms.
- Collect dirty trays, crockery, and utensils, ensuring timely clearing.
- Wash dishes, glasses, pots, pans, and trays, and store clean items safely.
- Sweep and mop kitchen floors to keep them free from grease and spillages.
- Clean worktables, walls, kitchen equipment, and appliances in accordance with schedules.
- Help manage stock levels and ensure correct stock rotation.
