Role Objectives

  • Develop digital solutions delivered to high-quality standards (GDS recommended)
  • Work effectively in Agile and product development environments informed by user research
  • Collaborate in multi-disciplinary/DevOps teams including Product Owners, UX designers/researchers, developers, and platform engineers
  • Operate within continuous improvement environments with frequent releases
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to junior colleagues
  • Demonstrate high levels of integrity and professionalism


Essential Skills & Experience

Coding & Testing

  • Java 8 and Spring Boot
  • Web front-end technologies: HTML, CSS, Bootstrap
  • Docker and Kubernetes
  • Build tools: Maven, Gradle, Ant
  • Source control: Git (branching, merging, etc.)
  • Testing: TDD, unit testing, JUnit, Mockito, Cypress
  • Relational databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL (data modelling, SQL scripts, stored procedures)
  • Shift-left approach to functional test automation (API and UI testing e.g. Cucumber, Nightwatch)


Ways of Working

  • Agile delivery experience
  • Product development informed by observation, experimentation, and user research
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary DevOps teams
  • Experience with multiple weekly releases


Desirable Skills

  • AWS
  • Open Source BPMN workflow engines (Camunda, Activiti, Flowable)
  • Front-end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue.js)
  • RedHat OpenShift for container orchestration
  • Knowledge of NCSC 14 cloud security principles


Security Clearance Requirement

  • Due to the nature of government client work, candidates must:Be eligible for Security Clearance (SC)
  • Have the right to work in the UK without sponsorship
  • Have lived in the UK continuously for the past 5+ years
