Job Summary
KL Talent Solutions are supporting a well-established and growing engineering and manufacturing organisation in their search for an experienced Senior Automation & Controls Engineer to join their expanding team. This is a hands-on, multi-site role working across several UK locations and a European facility. You’ll be responsible for maintaining, developing, and improving automation and control systems within a fast-paced industrial environment. The role involves PLC programming, electrical system troubleshooting, and implementing upgrades that drive efficiency and reliability across operations. Key Responsibilities: Install, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial electrical and automation systems. Develop and modify PLC code using recognised programming languages and platforms. Integrate PLCs with HMIs, drives, sensors, and other automated equipment. Identify and implement control system improvements to enhance performance and reduce downtime. Prepare and maintain technical documentation, wiring diagrams, and maintenance records. Support and mentor junior team members and apprentices in automation and controls best practices. Collaborate with on-site and cross-site teams to deliver engineering solutions and support projects. What We’re Looking For: A background in Electrical or Automation Engineering (Degree or equivalent experience preferred). Strong practical knowledge of PLC programming (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text, FBD, SFC). Solid understanding of industrial electrical systems and control circuits. Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation. Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset. Flexibility to travel between multiple UK sites and occasionally to European locations.
