Contract: Full-time (Part-time considered)

Salary: USD $150,000 – $180,000 per year

Our client is a well-established litigation firm with a strong focus on municipal defence and complex civil litigation matters. The firm is recognised for its strategic, detail-oriented approach and its ability to manage high-volume, high-stakes cases efficiently and effectively.

As part of its continued growth, the firm is seeking an experienced Senior Counsel to lead and manage 50H Hearings and contribute to specialised litigation projects

This position is primarily focused on conducting 50H Hearings on behalf of municipal clients, along with supporting special projects including drafting motions, affirmations in opposition, and appeals.

The successful candidate will independently review Notices of Claim, conduct remote hearings, and prepare detailed reports in compliance with municipal requirements. The role offers a primarily remote working structure with limited in-office attendance as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and analyse filed
• Notices of Claim prior to hearings
• Conduct remote 50H Hearings in accordance with statutory and municipal guidelines
• Prepare and draft hearing reports using the City’s prescribed format and system
• Draft motions, affirmations in opposition, and appellate submissions as required
• Handle matters involving negligence claims, actions against correction and police officers, motor vehicle accidents, and trip/slip and fall cases
• Collaborate with litigation teams on strategic defence matters
• Maintain accurate documentation and meet strict procedural deadlines

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
• Active New York State Bar admission
• Minimum 4 years of litigation experience in New York State
• Extensive experience in negligence matters
• Strong deposition experience
• Experience conducting 50H Hearings preferred
• Strong analytical, written advocacy, and case management skills
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting while managing deadlines effectively
