HR & Payroll Officer (part-time 25 hours per week)

Kettering, Northamptonshire |

£21,000–£24,000 per annum pro rata, depending on experience

Are you confident running payroll and enjoy keeping the people side of a business organised? We’re recruiting on behalf of an established Kettering based business looking for an experienced HR & Payroll Officer to take ownership of payroll and provide practical, approachable operational HR support.

Working closely with the Head of Finance and operational managers, you’ll support employees across office and site-based teams, ensuring payroll is accurate and essential HR processes run smoothly. You’ll also get to be involved in implementing a new payroll system and improve how the existing HR platform is used. It’s an opportunity to bring your experience, suggest improvements and see the difference your work makes.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Processing weekly and monthly payroll, checking hours, overtime, deductions and employee changes.
  • Coordinating HR administration for starters, onboarding, contractual changes and leavers.
  • Maintaining employee, holiday and absence records, and tracking probation reviews and training renewals.
  • Responding to routine HR and payroll queries and supporting employee relations administration.
  • Preparing reports and improving systems, data accuracy and processes.

What you’ll bring:

  • You’ll have proven experience processing payroll from start to finish, ideally including weekly payroll and variable hours, alongside practical HR experience.
  • Experience working in a construction or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong Excel and systems skills, careful attention to detail and the ability to manage deadlines independently are essential.
  • You’ll be approachable, discreet and confident communicating with managers and employees in a busy operational environment.
  • People First (HR system) experience, involvement in a system implementation or a relevant HR/payroll qualification would be a real advantage.

What’s on offer:

A varied role working 25 hours per week, flexible working arrangements, ongoing development and a supportive team.

The position is based in Kettering, with occasional travel to sites.

If you enjoy getting the details right and making things work better for people, we’d love to hear from you.
