In-House Councel - Solicitor Drafter (HDR)
- Housing Litigation | Hybrid / Remote Options | Permanent Remote
- Competitive Salary + bonus potential
- Flexible start and finish times
Standard 8 is recruiting for a sharp, experienced housing litigator who knows their way around a set of Particulars like second nature. This is an in-house drafting role with a long-established UK law firm operating at serious volume in housing conditions work. They need someone senior enough to take proper ownership of pleadings. If you’re at the stage where drafting is your strongest commercial weapon - and you’d like a role where that’s genuinely the focus - this one is worth your time.
What you’ll actually be doing
Day to day, this is a proper drafting brief. You’ll sit alongside other senior lawyers acting as in-house counsel, supporting busy fee earners who need high-quality pleadings turned around to deadline.
That means:
•Taking instructions and cutting straight to the legal and tactical issues
•Drafting Particulars of Claim in housing conditions matters - accurately, commercially and CPR-sound
•Preparing Replies to Defences (and counterclaims where needed) on matters you’ve drafted
•Checking cases for prospects, risk and procedural angles
•Being the go-to for technical questions when files wobble
•Advising on tactics and procedure, not just black-letter law
You’ll likely be:
•A qualified solicitor, barrister or CILEX Fellow
•Comfortable operating at Grade A / senior level (roughly 8+ years’ PQE as a guide)
•At your best when drafting - this is not a stepping-stone, it’s the core job
•Confident working independently without supervision theatre
Technically, you’ll need:
•Strong, current knowledge of housing conditions litigation
•A solid grip on tenancy law, basic contract principles and landlord repairing obligations
•Practical command of the Civil Procedure Rules - not just theory
•Clear, disciplined drafting and the judgment to know what matters and what doesn’t
Personally, you’ll be:
•Calm under pressure and organised with your own workload
•Direct, professional and comfortable advising peers•Detail-driven without disappearing down rabbit holes
•Technically curious and switched on to developments in housing law
If you’re an experienced housing lawyer who wants a drafting-led role without the usual nonsense attached, apply through Standard 8 for a confidential conversation.
