Standard 8 is working with a well-established London legal firm with a wide-ranging practice. They’re serious about their systems because they’re serious about how the firm actually runs. They want a seasoned VisualFiles Developer who knows the platform properly and doesn’t need hand-holding.This is fully remote, properly supported, and refreshingly light on theatre. You’re trusted to do the job, not monitored while you do it.

The role

You’ll be shaping and maintaining VisualFiles across multiple legal workstreams. That means building workflows that reflect real legal processes, not theoretical ones, and making sure the system helps people get work done instead of slowing them down. You’ll work closely with fee earners, operations, and IT to translate practical requirements into solid, supportable solutions. Some days that’s new development, other days it’s refining what’s already there so it actually scales.

Speed matters. Quality matters more. You’ll be expected to understand the difference.

What you’ll be doing

• Developing and enhancing VisualFiles workflows, scripts, and integrations
• Writing code that someone else can pick up without swearing at you
• Owning changes end to end, from first conversation through release and support
• Reviewing code sensibly, taking feedback like a professional, not personally
• Improving existing implementations rather than papering over cracks
• Delivering properly tested work, not “it works on my machine”
• Responding calmly when priorities shift, because legal environments do that
• Understanding why something is needed, not just what’s been requested
• Keeping stakeholders informed with clear updates and documentation

What we’re looking for

• Proven experience developing with LexisNexis VisualFiles
• Strong programming with a focus on maintainable, readable code
• A proper grasp of best practice, testing, and long-term maintainability
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Comfortable working autonomously in a fully remote setup
• A collaborative mindset, no lone wolf heroics required
• Curiosity and a willingness to keep learning, because stagnation is optional
