Some legal firms still run on systems that look like they were built on a Friday afternoon in 2004. This one has finally decided to drag itself into the modern world and needs a Software Engineer who can help them build internal tools that actually work for the people using them. You’ll be part of a small team where things get done because people genuinely talk to each other. No twelve layers of sign-off. No committees. Just practical engineering that supports a legal business trying to get its tech house in order.
What you’ll be doing
• Building and improving internal applications in PHP and Laravel
• Creating new features that make life easier for the operational and legal teams
• Working with SQL Server to build queries, optimise performance, and keep data moving sensibly
• Integrating systems using modern APIs
• Helping shape better technical decisions without needing a six-page slide deck
• Supporting and mentoring junior developers who want to learn rather than be managed
What you’ll need
<span class="ql-cursor"></span>• Solid PHP and Laravel experience
• Confident working with SQL Server
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs
• Ability to work onsite and actually talk to humans
• A knack for spotting the difference between a genuine requirement and a request someone made just because they were bored
Nice to have
• .NET experience
• Background in legal services or another regulated sector
• A curious streak that leads you to fix things rather than walk past them
Why it’s worth a look
• Your work will actually get used, not buried in a backlog
• You’ll have the freedom to improve things rather than babysit legacy projects
• The team cares more about common sense than ceremony
• You’ll help nudge a legal business into the twenty-first century, which is no small achievementIf you like building software that has a clear purpose, helps real people, and doesn’t get lost in corporate nonsense, this one’s worth a conversation.
