Connective Careers Pathways is recruiting on behalf of a children's residential care provider for an experienced and resilient Senior Residential Care Practitioner. You will join a dedicated team in a 2-bed children’s residential home in Walsall. This role is a rewarding opportunity to take on a key shift-leadership position, managing a staff team on shift while providing a therapeutic, safe, and structured environment for looked-after young people.


The Role


As a Senior Residential Care Practitioner, you will take charge of shifts, ensuring the smooth daily running of the home. Working alongside your senior co-worker on a fixed rolling rota, you will act as a strong role model for both the young people and the care staff, mentoring junior team members while upholding outstanding safeguarding practices.


Key responsibilities:


  • Leading and managing shifts to ensure a stable, safe, and positive home environment.
  • Supervising, supporting, and mentoring Residential Care Practitioners.
  • Assisting with care planning, risk assessments, and daily handovers.
  • Supporting young people with their education, daily routines, and emotional well-being.
  • Attending mandatory training and team meetings to contribute to the home's development.


Essential Requirements:


  • Qualifications: Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, Level 4 in Children, Young People and Families Practitioner, Level 3 in Health and Social Care, or a higher relevant qualification.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year’s experience supervising a team or leading shifts within a children’s residential home.
  • Sector Knowledge: Strong experience and practical knowledge of working with children within residential care frameworks.
  • Driving Licence: Full UK Driving Licence (essential).


Working Hours & Shift Patterns


  • 56.5 hours per week, averaging 10 shifts per month.
  • Formatted into a 3-week rolling rota working alongside a senior co-worker.
  • Shift Times: 07:30 to 22:30, plus an overnight sleep-in and a 30-minute handover the next morning (07:30–08:00).
  • Total hours include 244.5 hours per month across shifts, mandatory training sessions, and team meetings.What's on OfferStarting salary of £38,683.63 per annum (inclusive of sleep-ins).
  • Guaranteed pay rise upon successful completion of your 6-month probationary period.
