Connective Careers Pathways is recruiting on behalf of a children's residential care provider for a dedicated and compassionate Waking Night Support Worker. You will join a specialist children’s residential service supporting young people with complex needs and learning disabilities (LD) in Newcastle-under-Lyme. This role is a rewarding opportunity for a caring individual to provide a stable, safe, and highly supportive environment during night-time hours.
The Role
As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will remain awake throughout the night to ensure the home remains safe, secure, and tailored to the needs of the children. You will act as a consistent, reassuring presence, supporting young people with learning disabilities and complex needs according to their care plans, while ensuring their dignity, comfort, and safety.
Key responsibilities:
- Ensuring the home remains safe, secure, and fully managed during night hours.
- Supporting children with learning disabilities and complex needs in line with individual care plans.
- Monitoring the comfort and safety of young people throughout the night, managing health or sensory needs.
- Completing essential night-time domestic duties, including cleaning and laundry.
- Carrying out and accurately documenting health, safety, and security checks.
- Completing detailed waking night logs, daily notes, and incident reports.
- Providing clear, comprehensive handovers to the incoming day staff team.
Essential Requirements
- Experience working with children or adults with learning disabilities or complex needs is highly desirable.
- NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) is an advantage, though not essential.
- Ability to work waking night shifts reliably on a set roster.
- Strong communication skills, patience, and a calm, person-centred approach.
- A genuine passion, empathy, and resilience for supporting vulnerable young people.
- Commitment to upholding safeguarding, health and safety, and regulatory policies.
Working Hours
- Full-time hours on a fixed rolling rota.
- Shift Pattern: 2 nights on, followed by 4 days off.
- Hours: 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM.
