About This Role

We are looking for a Litigation Associate with 2-7 years of defense litigation experience to join a close-knit, 16-attorney firm that's been in business since 1985. This is a long-term growth opportunity with strong mentorship, direct access to leadership, and a collegial open-door culture where attorneys stick around for decades.

What will you be doing?

  • Managing a full caseload of general defense litigation (primarily premises liability) from inception through resolution
  • Conducting and defending depositions
  • Representing clients in court appearances, mediations, and settlement conferences
  • Collaborating directly with senior partners on trial prep, legal strategy, and client communication
  • Drafting pleadings, discovery, motions, and case strategy documents

Key Requirements

  • 2-7 years of general defense litigation experience (must know how to get to court and navigate the basics)
  • Familiarity with New York courts — NYC and Long Island jurisdictions
  • Deposition experience required
  • Long-term mindset — no job hoppers; looking for someone who wants to grow with the firm
  • Salary expectations aligned with Long Island market (not Manhattan pay scale)

Cutting-Edge law firm

Long-term stability and culture: The firm's been in business since 1985 with attorneys who've stayed 20-30+ years. They invest in people and treat them well — this isn't a revolving door. Guaranteed-in-all-but-name bonuses: Even during COVID they paid full salaries and gave bonuses while competitors did 25% pay cuts and layoffs.

What Makes This Special

Associates can expect $10K-$35K+ in year-end bonuses that grow over time. Strong mentorship and open-door access: You sit steps away from partners with decades of experience. Junior attorneys get real-time guidance — one associate just ran her first trial thanks to that daily access.

Flexible Work Environment

Flexible hybrid schedule: After on-boarding they're flexible with attorneys working from home. No rigid schedule — just get the work done and manage your court calendar. Reasonable billable expectations: 2000 hours is the standard (not the 2200-2400 many competitors demand) and the firm actively manages workload so nobody gets buried.

Company Summary
Chesney, Nicholas & Brower, LLP is a civil litigation defense firm founded in 1985 and based in Syosset, Long Island, New York. With approximately 16 attorneys, the firm represents clients in all aspects of civil litigation, primarily focusing on general negligence, New York Labor Law/construction site accidents, motor vehicle cases, premises liability, and professional/medical malpractice across New York City and the surrounding boroughs. The firm is currently in a significant growth phase with cases coming in from multiple accounts, and is actively seeking to bring in younger talent to complement their deeply experienced senior team. CNB's culture is defined by extraordinary longevity and loyalty—many attorneys and staff have been with the firm for 20 to 30+ years, a testament to the firm's collegial, open-door environment where mentorship, work-life balance, and treating people well are paramount. Co-owner Greg Brower, who has been with the firm since 1996 and running operations since 2011, demonstrated this commitment during COVID by maintaining full salaries and bonuses for all staff when competitors were implementing pay cuts and layoffs. The firm offers competitive compensation with generous year-end bonuses (ranging from $10,000–$35,000+), a reasonable 2,000 billable hour expectation, and flexible hybrid work arrangements, making it an ideal long-term home for attorneys who value stability, camaraderie, and professional growth.
