The Technical Sales Consultant is a field-based role responsible for driving new business and managing technical sales opportunities across the UK and occasionally in Europe.

Reporting to the Head of Sales, this role plays a key part in the success of our AV and unified communications (UC) projects by understanding client needs, proposing tailored solutions, and helping secure profitable work.

Working closely with the Pre-Sales, Project Delivery, and Customer Success teams, the Technical Sales Consultant combines commercial acumen with strong product knowledge to build relationships, generate revenue, and deliver a high-quality customer experience from the initial enquiry through to project handover.

This is a hands-on, client-facing role for someone who thrives on building trust, solving problems, and winning new business in a fast-paced technical environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver a clear sales plan aligned to personal revenue and margin targets.
  • Build and manage a strong pipeline of new business opportunities through a mix of inbound leads, partner referrals, and self-generated activity.
  • Meet with clients across the UK (primarily London and the Southeast) and occasionally in Europe to understand their requirements, conduct site surveys, and present suitable AV/UC solutions.
  • Qualify opportunities by assessing client needs, budgets, timescales, and decision-making structures.
  • Prepare tailored proposals and quotes with support from the Pre-Sales team, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and commercial viability.
  • Work closely with the Customer Success Account Manager to identify upsell or project expansion opportunities within existing accounts.
  • Ensure all leads, quotes, and sales activity are accurately recorded in the CRM (HubSpot), and relevant deals are registered with key vendor partners.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure smooth handovers to project delivery, including preparing detailed project briefs.
  • Provide regular reporting on sales activity and pipeline performance to the Head of Sales.
  • Represent our client professionally at client meetings, vendor events, and industry networking opportunities.

Essential:

  • Proven experience in a technical sales or business development role within the AV industry.
  • Strong understanding of AV and UC solutions, with the ability to translate technical requirements into commercially viable proposals.
  • Confident in delivering client presentations and product demonstrations, both on-site and virtually.
  • Experience managing the full sales cycle from lead qualification to close, ideally using CRM systems such as HubSpot.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail in documentation and reporting.
  • Organised and self-motivated, able to manage multiple opportunities and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel regularly for client meetings and occasional overnight stays.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with AV sales tools such as D-Tools, Stardraw, or similar.
  • AVIXA CTS or other industry-recognised certification.
  • Prior experience working with manufacturers, distributors, or channel partners in the AV ecosystem.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience supporting or mentoring other sales professionals.
