Job Summary
A leading home automation and smart technology specialist is seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to take ownership of the installation, commissioning, and delivery of high-end residential projects across Essex and the surrounding areas.This is a senior, hands-on role suited to an engineer with strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and a passion for delivering exceptional smart home experiences to discerning clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Delivery
- Lead the installation, configuration, and commissioning of complex home automation systems
- Deliver integrated solutions including lighting control, AV, networking, security, CCTV, access control, and climate systems
- Interpret technical designs, schematics, and scopes of work to ensure accurate project execution
- Carry out system testing, fault-finding, and final handover to clients
- Ensure installations meet company standards, manufacturer guidelines, and industry best practices
Project & Site Leadership
- Act as the senior engineer on site, overseeing project delivery and technical standards
- Coordinate and mentor junior engineers and subcontractors where required
- Liaise with project managers, designers, electricians, and other trades to ensure smooth delivery
- Manage on-site priorities to ensure projects are completed on time and to specification
Client Interaction & Support
- Represent the business professionally on site, maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction
- Provide clear technical explanations and user training to clients at handover
- Support post-installation troubleshooting and system optimisation when required
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to improving engineering processes, standards, and documentation
- Stay up to date with emerging home automation technologies and products
- Provide technical feedback to design and management teams to support future projects
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in high-end residential AV or home automation engineering
- Strong knowledge of smart home platforms such as Control4, Crestron Home, Lutron, KNX, Savant, or similar
- Solid understanding of structured cabling, networking, and IP-based systems
- Experience with lighting control, distributed audio/video, and home cinema installations
- Strong fault-finding and commissioning skills
- Ability to lead projects and mentor junior engineers
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable Certifications
- Control4, Crestron, Lutron, KNX, or equivalent manufacturer certifications
- Networking certifications or demonstrable advanced network experience
