Job Summary
Summary This position is primarily responsible for the supervision and technical direction of a team of engineers and designers while functioning as a lead engineer. Responsibilities include the overall delivery of civil/structural deliverables and services on time, within budget, and meeting quality expectations. Duties may include performing advanced engineering work or serving as a technical specialist for complex engineering assignments. This role requires extensive progressive experience in civil/structural engineering and involves utilizing project controls for cost, schedule, and quality management. Work is performed under minimal supervision. Primary Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Reviewing and approving all civil/structural deliverables. • Validating professional service and construction estimates at the beginning of a project, and tracking changes as the project progresses. • Producing professional service estimates in accordance with department standards for project deliverables, studies, change notices, and proposal efforts. • Establishing design criteria, incorporating client requirements, and ensuring compliance with applicable state, local, and federal standards and codes. • Communicating permitting requirements to the project team. • Defining project scope and deliverables. • Initiating timely change notices when deviations affect project scope, schedule, or cost. • Planning and organizing team activities, communicating the plan to the team, project leadership, and clients. • Maintaining control of the project by tracking budget progress, schedule commitments, and quality standards. • Understanding and utilizing project control tools. • Delegating tasks to engineers and designers based on their technical skills and experience, while providing support to ensure efficient progress and quality. • Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines as needed to ensure effective project execution. • Producing estimate-level preliminary designs and suitable material take-offs for project estimates. • Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine efficient engineering solutions. • Familiarity with department design and drafting standards. • Producing detailed design calculations and sketches for construction materials. • Checking calculations made by other engineers for accuracy and compliance with codes, specifications, and good engineering practices. • Producing construction specifications and monitoring drawings to ensure conformity to design calculations and specifications. • Assisting the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems. • Ensuring sufficient sketches and details are provided for engineering drawings. • Reviewing and checking vendor drawings for civil/structural input. • Producing bid packages for procurement of materials or subcontract pricing. • Participating in the planning of training programs and professional development opportunities for staff. • Leading small to large teams in coordinating civil/structural efforts, keeping the team focused on scope, schedule, and budget. • Identifying and developing work-sharing packages for inter-discipline execution support. • Providing leadership to ensure communication and execution of work within scope, schedule, and budget.
Experience
Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university is required. Structural coursework is required for structural engineering positions. Registration: Professional registration is highly preferred. Experience: This position requires 15 or more years of relevant industrial experience in civil/structural engineering
