An established UK engineering and fabrication business specialising in the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of industrial plant and engineered systems. The company operates nationally, supporting clients across heavy engineering, materials processing and infrastructure-related sectors. Due to continued growth and an expanding project pipeline, the business is strengthening its engineering delivery team.


The Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter / Welder to support workshop fabrication and nationwide site installations. This role suits a hands-on engineer who takes pride in quality workmanship and is comfortable working on complex mechanical assemblies and fabricated steel systems in both workshop and site environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Mechanical fitting and assembly of fabricated components, plant modules and industrial systems
  • Welding duties including MIG and TIG to engineering drawings and specifications
  • Interpreting fabrication, GA and mechanical drawings accurately
  • Installation, alignment and adjustment of mechanical equipment including shafts, bearings and fixings
  • Supporting site installation and commissioning activities across the UK
  • Carrying out inspections, fault finding and remedial works where required
  • Maintaining high standards of health & safety and quality control
  • Completing job documentation, timesheets and quality records
  • Safe operation of workshop equipment including grinders, drills, presses and cutting tools


Essential Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter and Welder in an industrial or heavy engineering environment
  • Strong welding capability (MIG/TIG essential)
  • Solid mechanical assembly and fitting background
  • Ability to read and work from engineering drawings
  • Good understanding of site health & safety practices
  • Willingness to travel and work on UK-wide projects


Desirable Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Mechanical Engineering or Fabrication & Welding
  • Relevant welding qualifications or coding
  • CSCS card or equivalent
  • Experience working on plant installation or commissioning projects

Salary & Working Hours

Pay Structure:

  • Basic rate: £17.00 per hour
  • Standard hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 4:30pm


Overtime:

  • Saturday: Time and a half
  • Sunday: Double time


Earning Potential:

This is a role where engineers genuinely control their own earnings. With unlimited overtime available and many engineers working alternate weekends, total annual earnings can significantly exceed basic pay.
