Job Summary
Our client is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their Operational Assets team, based in either Manchester or Leeds. This senior role focuses on existing buildings, supporting clients with decarbonisation, performance improvements, and innovative design solutions that extend the lifecycle of assets. The successful candidate will contribute to sustainable outcomes, work across a diverse portfolio of projects, and play a key role in developing and leading a growing, multidisciplinary team.
Experience
The ideal candidate will be a qualified mechanical design engineer, ideally chartered or working towards chartership, with extensive consultancy experience. You will have a proven background in refurbishment, fit-out, and existing building projects, with strong technical knowledge across building services. Experience in areas such as performance specification, contract administration, site monitoring, and post-occupancy evaluations will be essential. A solid understanding of UK and EU regulations, design guides, and standards is required, along with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior staff, and maintain strong client relationships. A track record in business development and delivering sustainable, data-led solutions will be highly valued
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of mechanical engineering services across complex projects
- Contribute to decarbonisation, energy reduction, and performance improvement initiatives
- Provide consultancy services including technical due diligence, condition surveys, and maintenance reports
- Work closely with clients, landlords, and property managers to deliver practical solutions
- Manage team resources, budgets, and deliverables effectively
- Mentor, train, and support junior engineers, contributing to succession planning and team growth
- Secure new business opportunities and contribute to the development of the Operational Assets team
